Nakai Estate Genmaicha is from Wazuka in Kyoto, Japan. This is 100% Yabukita single cultivar, and the brown rice is also grown in Kyoto. Both sencha and brown rice are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. Seventh generations of the Nakai family have farmed on their estate for 350 years and grown organic teas for 40 years.
Wazuka Town, located upstream of the Kizu River which gently flows through the Kyoto Yamashiro region, is surrounded by mountains such as Washiho Mountain (681m), Takao Mountain (443m), Mikami Mountain (473m), and Yudani Mountain (382m). With its beautiful natural surroundings, clear air, and peaceful, verdant mountainous terrain, it provides an ideal environment for tea cultivation.
The 2024 edition of Nakai Estate Genmaicha tastes very mellow, smooth, and nutty, with a slight sweetness and a toasty, almost popcorn-like taste from the roasted rice. The flavor is rich and layered, with a distinct umami quality derived from both the green tea and the toasted brown rice. The fragrance of genmaicha is warm, nutty, and slightly sweet, with a toasty aroma from the roasted rice. Whether you're enjoying a light snack or a full meal, genmaicha's balance of earthy, toasty, and sweet flavors makes it a delightful accompaniment to a variety of foods. It pairs particularly well with nuts, cheese, sushi, and light meals.
